Having moved from Oxford to Manchester to study Football Business and Media at the University Campus of Football Business, I joined Badger and Combes’ Talent Pathway programme following an open day in November 2022. As someone who had only previously considered roles as a sports journalist, the array of technology and enthusiasm presented by the team opened my eyes to new career paths within the media industry. Since this point, I have been offered the opportunity to develop my skills in several sectors, including camera operation, technical maintenance, aspects of running and floor management, and finally, rigging, and de-rigging.
As someone with a passion for sports, particularly motorsport and football, Badger and Combes’ involvement within the digital sports media landscape is of particular interest – particularly as I have been granted press passes to each Old Trafford. To be at the forefront of the live-streaming industry, and a part of the team who delivers productions for clientele such as Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Betfred Rugby Super League, is an extremely exciting prospect – and experience that I hope will serve me well considering my ambitions within sports media
Whilst I also practice sports photography using my personal collection of camera equipment, sports are not the only thing that I have shot through the lens. A personal highlight of my time at Badger and Combes so far comes from MediaCityUK’s We Invented the Weekend Festival, filming acts ranging from Hacker T Dog to Craig Charles from the side of a scorching stage. This was something of a new experience for me, testing my artistic creativity on camera – including the use of a couple of in-camera effects.
